The District downloads and maps rainfall data compiled by the National Weather Service/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The data is generated by quality-controlled, multi-sensor radar and rain guage precipitation estimates. The National Weather Service has developed a system of downloading the observed data to a grid system that can be plotted on a GIS mapping program.
The data is downloaded to the District’s GIS mapping program and compiled by District Staff to create Rainfall Maps for Burnet County. The data is arranged in a 2.5 by 2.5 mile grid throughout Burnet county with approximately 200 points of data.
