Proposed Groundwater Management Zone

Briggs & Oakalla Area

The Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District (CTGCD) is initiating a stakeholder-driven process to evaluate the potential establishment of a groundwater management zone in the Briggs and Oakalla area for the Trinity aquifer. This plan outlines a structured approach to engage the public, gather input, and develop informed recommendations. The process will begin in April 2025 and is anticipated to conclude by September 2025.

Important Dates

Inital Public Meeting

April 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM

Where: Oakalla Community Center, 29011 Ranch to Market Rd 963, Briggs, TX 78608

Purpose: Launch the stakeholder involvement process by presenting studies, data, and findings compiled by CTGCD to date

Details: Open to all residents, stakeholders, and interested parties in the Briggs & Oakalla areas and other portions of Northeast Burnet County. CTGCD Staff & Consultants will provide an overview of groundwater conditions & the need for a potential management zone. Opportunity for attendees to ask questions & provide feedback.

Formation of Stakeholder Committee

May 2025

Purpose: Establish a focused group to represent diverse perspectives and provide detailed input.

Details: Committee will consist of interested stakeholders (e.g., residents, landowners, business owners, etc.) selected from volunteers or nominees. CTGCD will facilitate the formation and ensure balanced representation.

Stakeholder Committee Review

May – July 2025

Purpose: Develop preliminary recommendations for the groundwater management zone.

Details: CTGCD staff and consultants will present: proposed geographic area for the management zone, potential objectives and goals, potential management strategies and rules to achieve objectives.

Committee will discuss, refine, and provide feedback on these proposals.

Public Meeting for Committee Recommendations

July 2025

Purpose: Share the stakeholder committee’s input and CTGCD’s refined proposals with the broader public.

Details: Open forum to present ideas and gather additional community feedback. Opportunity for public discussion and questions.

 

Public Hearing

August or September 2025

Purpose: Formalize the process and collect final public input prior to decision-making.

Details: One or more hearings will be scheduled based on public interest and feedback volume. CTGCD will document all comments for consideration in the final decision process.
